What to do?
Aveiro is one of Portugal's most charming destinations and offers visitors a wealth of experiences in terms of discovery, culture and leisure.
Known as the Venice of Portugal or the city of canals, it stands out for its surroundings with Ria de Aveiro and its strong connection to maritime traditions. One of the must-do activities is the moliceiro boat trip, ideal for learning about the history and heritage of the city, which developed along the banks of the Ria.
On land, discovering Aveiro on foot or by bicycle is well worth it!
The best way to get to know Aveiro is undoubtedly the one that allows us to experience the city first-hand. On foot or by bicycle, these are two excellent options for discovering the city's squares, museums, iconic buildings and privileged contact with nature. During your tour, don't forget to try Aveiro's ovos moles (egg yolk sweets)!
The discovery can and should continue towards the Ribeira de Esgueira Pier, where you can walk along the Aveiro footbridges. Its flat route of about 5 km (or 10 km round trip) is perfect for family outings, in close contact with the fauna and flora of the Ria de Aveiro lagoon area.
At the entrance to the walkways, you will find a café with a terrace where you can enjoy one of the best sunsets in the city. Here, you can hire a bicycle to ride along the walkways and back.
During the summer months, the moliceiro boat trip through the Ria lagoon area begins at Cais da Ribeira de Esgueira. The route provides an immersive experience of nature and allows you to appreciate the landscape, fauna and biodiversity of the Ria in its wild state. It is a unique experience that combines tradition, heritage and nature in an authentic and memorable way.
Just a few minutes from the city are the beaches of Aveiro, such as Praia da Barra and Costa Nova, famous for Portugal's tallest lighthouse and colourful haystacks.
Aveiro is an ideal destination for those seeking culture, nature, beaches and good food, offering experiences for all ages throughout the year.
